Intent to Use:
Salmonella spp. are rod-shaped, Gram-negative bacteria classified into Salmonella enterica and Salmonella bongori. S. enterica is clinically significant, comprising six subspecies and over 2500 serotypes, including typhoidal (S. Typhi, S. Paratyphi) and non-typhoidal strains. Typhoidal serotypes are human-restricted and cause enteric fever, with symptoms like prolonged high fever, weakness, abdominal pain, constipation, and rose-coloured rash also can enter the bloodstream, leading to severe illness. Non-typhoidal strains are zoonotic, causing self-limiting gastroenteritis with diarrhoea, fever, vomiting, and cramps. Infections arise from consuming food or water contaminated with animal or human feces; commonly undercooked meat, eggs, dairy, or raw produce.
