Intent to use:
Rotavirus (RV), a genus of double-stranded RNA viruses in the Reoviridae family, is the leading cause of severe gastroenteritis in children under five, responsible for 500,000–600,000 deaths annually. It is primarily transmitted through the fecal–oral route and infects the cells lining the small intestine, causing inflammation and damage commonly referred to as “stomach flu”. Among the 11 known species (RVA–RVL) from which A–C and H can infect humans. Rotavirus A (RVA) accounts for over 90% of human infections, while groups B and C typically affect adults and older children. Rotaviral enteritis presents with symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, watery diarrhoea, abdominal cramps, low-grade fever, and dehydration, which can lead to severe complications like electrolyte imbalance and hospitalization.
