Intent to use:
Syphilis is a chronic, sexually transmitted infection caused by the spirochete bacterium Treponema pallidum subspecies pallidum. The disease progresses in distinct stages—primary, secondary, latent, and tertiary—each with varying symptoms, from painless genital ulcers and rashes to severe systemic complications including cardiovascular and neurological damage if untreated. Syphilis can also be transmitted from mother to child during pregnancy, resulting in congenital syphilis, which may cause stillbirth or developmental issues. Traditional diagnostic methods such as dark-field microscopy and serological tests have limitations in sensitivity, specificity, and early-stage detection.
