The DiAGSure® Pertussis/Parapertussis Multiplex PCR Kit is a real-time PCR assay designed for the simultaneous detection and differentiation of Bordetella pertussis and Bordetella parapertussis—the primary bacterial agents responsible for whooping cough. While B. pertussis is more common, B. parapertussis can cause similar clinical symptoms such as prolonged coughing fits, apnea in infants, and post-tussive vomiting.
