Hepatitis B virus (HBV) poses a significant global health threat, often described as a “silent killer” because it can remain undetected for years while gradually leading to liver cirrhosis, failure, or cancer. Transmitted via blood and bodily fluids, it can become chronic in 5–10% of cases. HBV is a member of the Hepadnaviridae family and has 8 genotypes (A-H) infecting humans with regional prevalence variations. Early symptoms include fatigue, jaundice, dark urine, and abdominal pain, but chronic infections are often asymptomatic.
