Intent to use:
Plasmodium species, the causative agents of malaria, are protozoan parasites transmitted through the bite of infected Anopheles mosquitoes. Among the five species infecting humans, Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax are the most prevalent. P. falciparum is responsible for the most severe and potentially fatal cases, while P. vivax contributes to recurrent infections due to its dormant liver stage (hypnozoites). Other species include P. ovale, P. malariae, and P. knowlesi, with varying regional prevalence and clinical presentations. Symptoms typically include fever, chills, sweating, headache, nausea, and anemia. Early and accurate species identification is critical for appropriate treatment and reducing disease burden.
