Intent to use:
The DiAGSure® Bacterial Encephalitis Panel is a highly specific real-time PCR assay designed to detect five major bacterial pathogens known to cause central nervous system (CNS) infections: Neisseria meningitidis, Listeria spp., Listeria monocytogenes, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Haemophilus influenzae. These bacteria are responsible for acute bacterial meningitis and encephalitis, conditions that can lead to severe neurological complications including seizures, coma, and death if not treated promptly. The panel is especially valuable in diagnosing infections in high-risk groups such as neonates, elderly individuals, and immunocompromised patients. Listeria monocytogenes poses a particular risk during pregnancy, while N. meningitidis and S. pneumoniae are leading global causes of meningitis. Rapid and accurate identification of the causative agent enables timely administration of targeted antimicrobial therapy, helping to reduce mortality, avoid complications, and support better outcomes in cases of suspected bacterial encephalitis.
