Intent to use:
Hepatitis A is an acute liver disease caused by the hepatitis A virus (HAV), a highly contagious, non-enveloped, single-stranded RNA virus of the Picornaviridae family. It spreads primarily via the fecal-oral route through contaminated food, water, or close contact with infected individuals. Symptoms range from mild fever, nausea, and fatigue to jaundice and, in rare cases, fulminant hepatitis, particularly in older adults or those with pre-existing liver conditions. HAV does not cause chronic infection but poses significant public health concerns due to its environmental persistence and resistance to standard food-processing methods. There are six genotypes (I–VI) and several subtypes (IA, IB, IIA, IIB, IIIA, IIIB), with IA most common in humans.
